Ones that work together to record the audio directly from the VST. Also looking for recommendations on best VST's and DAW's.Is there a "best" cable to use for edrums hooked up to a PC? MIDI, USB, Stereo Jack, etc. Will an audio interface even solve this latency issue that I'm having? If so, I'm open to other recommendations (I'm mainly a guitar player, so one that would work with guitars as well is a plus).I'm aware that you can use 1/4in stereo jack cables from the edrums into the 2 ports on the audio interface, but my main question is will that even still work to trigger the VST since it's actual audio being carried and not a MIDI signal being sent? I'm a complete dunce when it comes to audio stuffs, so be easy on me lol. After further inspection, the 2i2 doesn't have any MIDI or USB In Ports that I could use with my set to trigger the VST. The recommendation was the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 which is being delivered later this week. This made it perfectly playable, however, it prevents any other audio from being played like YouTube or Spotify for some reason.Īfter speaking to some people at the local music store, a guy pretty much confirmed what my research had led me to decide purchase an audio interface. The workaround that solved the latency issue for me was downloading and using ASIO4All as the sound driver. I've also tried using USB Type B > USB C and I get the same result. Reducing the buffer size to the lowest available (64) still gives me a very noticeable amount of latency. I've used a MIDI > USB cable to hook up the drum set directly to my Windows PC (Specs listed below). Even a slight bit of latency is enough to throw me off playing and ruins the entire point for me. However, upon trying to use the software, I am encountering latency that makes it unplayable. I'm not really worried about this yet until I can at least accomplish the aforementioned goal.Īfter alot of videos, it was clear that VST's like EZdrummer are the way to go due to the higher end sound quality they provide over the included module. Eventually record with a DAW (Not sure which one yet). Play through a VST like EZdrummer with unnoticeable latency to songs on YouTube through either my Amp or Headphones (Not at the same time)Ģ. Just like with any other aspect of music creation, it's way easier to build up from a sketch than to complete the full thing second by second.I just got my first drumset ever for Christmas (Alesis Surge Mesh Kit).ġ. If it doesn't sound nice I'll change it to something more standard 4/4 (or less), or double/halve the playing. The second is if I already have a track, I try to do a good match with just the bass and snare drums. Downside is you look like an idiot and feel embarrassed by yourself the first week or two. ![]() ![]() This also is good for building a Lego set of fills. ![]() I build up my own MIDI library of sorts to lay on specific riffs and modify from there. You can much more easily get a nice rhythmic syncopation and stuff messing around in your free time than you ever could staring at a screen trying to think of one. Sometimes I get lost and just rely on the preset MIDI packs but now I've got two strategies to make something good.įirst thing I do is to just start beatboxing all the time during the day and record what sounds cool. It's so easy to immediately get a good metal or otherwise punchy drum track with that. I had DFH for a very long time before I went to Superior Drummer 3.
